Job Description:

The Model Risk Management Group (MRMG) within the Global Risk and Compliance Group is responsible for managing and mitigating risk associated with all American Express (AXP) models.

Purpose of the Role:

The successful candidate will manage and control model risk, especially related to next-generation Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) models. This role aims to elevate model excellence, enhance shareholder value, and adapt to the evolving landscape of model innovation, regulatory expectations, and external factors.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversee enterprise-wide models, focusing on AI and ML models for marketing, credit, fraud, or other business risks.
  • Conduct gap assessments and establish a robust framework to strengthen model risk controls and meet regulatory standards.
  • Research opportunities to enhance model excellence and drive business impact.
  • Communicate results to partners, senior leadership, and model committees.

Experience:

0-4 years in analytics or big data workstreams.

Educational Background:

MBA, Master’s Degree in Economics, Statistics, or related fields from a top-tier institution.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Hands-on experience in model development or validation.
  • Strong analytical, relationship, and project management skills.
  • Experience with advanced statistical and/or quantitative techniques to solve business problems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical results to business partners and senior management.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work within tight deadlines and changing priorities.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience with at least one data manipulation tool such as R, JAVA, SQL, or SAS.
  • Expertise in Data Science, ML, AI, Coding, and techniques like active learning, transfer learning, neural models, decision trees, reinforcement learning, and more.
