Job Overview and Responsibilities

The Analytics and Innovation (Ai) team at United Airlines is dedicated to innovating, transforming, and solving complex business challenges, resulting in significant and measurable enterprise-wide impact through deep cross-functional business expertise and advanced analytics. We collaborate with business and technology partners across the company (e.g., Airport Operations, Contact Centers, Network Planning, Revenue Management, Digital Products, Human Resources, etc.) to influence strategic decisions, enterprise strategies, and business processes, helping to connect the dots across the organization. Data Scientists on the Ai team collaborate with business and technology leaders across the company to implement Operations-Research-powered solutions that support and automate business processes. The team works in close partnership with other digital technology teams with complementary skills and capabilities. The primary goals are to drive incremental revenue, reduce costs, and enhance customer engagement by leveraging state-of-the-art Operations Research (OR) techniques. Data Scientists contribute to developing smart and innovative solutions across many of United’s departments. Working on projects in collaboration with business teams to identify areas for improvement and gather and analyze relevant data. Delivering high-quality OR solutions while maintaining thorough documentation to promote seamless workflows and code reusability. Effectively communicating insights from workstreams and delivering clear, professional presentations to team members, managers, and stakeholders. Conducting regular technical coordination and reviews with stakeholders, ensuring timely reporting and addressing any issues that arise. This position is offered under local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited basis, will not be provided. This position is for United Airlines Business Services Pvt. Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Airlines Inc.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or Economics.
• 0 – 2 years of experience.
• Strong foundation in Operations Research fundamentals, including LP, MILP, MDP, and metaheuristics (e.g., GA and ACO).
• Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship.
• Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
• Successful completion of an interview is required to meet job qualifications.
• Reliable and punctual attendance is an essential requirement of the position.

Preferred:

• Specialization in Operations Research or Industrial Engineering.
• Experience with solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, etc.
• Experience designing algorithms or heuristics for solving OR formulations efficiently in an industry or academic setting.
• Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, Java, R, Python, or other structured languages.
• Theoretical and practical expertise in AI/ML modeling.
